The process of registration of the candidates started on May 29. These are the second elections (first elections took place in 2006). School Board is composed of teachers, parents and an elected representative from mid-level pupils self government. 

Schools elect equal number of parents and teachers (no less than 3 parents and 3 teachers and no more than 6 parents and 6 teachers) in School Board. The Ministry of Education and Science and local self-government body have right of a representative in School Board. 

School Board elects school principal, approves school regulation, budget, elects disciplinary committee etc. Parents and teachers are elected for the period of 3 years.

In order to improve the quality of school board elections, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia is observing the election process in all regions of Georgia. 

Representatives from civil society are free to observe elections, as well as representatives from non-governmental organizations. They are to register in the School Election Committee.
