Minister meets students

Today, Giorgi Margvelashvili, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia held meeting with up to 200 students from state and private higher education institutions. Minister introduced new initiatives of the Ministry to the students: 
  • Free faculties – for the first time this year, all 4 years of studies on 17 specialities of several leading directions of baccalaureate at state higher education institutions will be financed by the state. 
  • During the first semester of the academic year 2012-2013, 1230 students received stipend amounting 150 GEL. Starting from the second semester of the same year, recipients of stipends are 2405 students.
  • For the first time this year twice as many students shall receive grant financing.
  • For the first time this year, MA courses shall be financed within the social program , 205000 GEL was allocated for this purpose.
  • For the first time this year, state shall finance PhD studies as well. 1 million GEL is allocated for this purpose.

This does not represent the full list of novelties introduced by Minister Margvelashvili. The students were able to ask questions, among them, the questions regarding ongoing projects. Giorgi Margvelashvili made clarifications on a number of issues, such as status of educational institutions, summer employment program for students, inclusive education etc.
