Georgian Government for Open Governance

Within the framework of the project “Georgian Government for Open Governance”, Giorgi Margvelashvili, Minister of Education and Science of Georgia,” held a meeting with journalists. Minister provided the journalists with the information regarding new projects and planned innovations and answered their questions.

Implemented and planned projects are:

  • After the increase in teachers’ salaries by 60-205 GEL, salaries of school board and administrative-technical staff shall increase gradually beginning from September of the current year.
  • Paid leave of absence for teachers shall be no less than two months (40 days) and they shall receive their salary before the leave.
  • Textbook printing is under way and gradual distribution in public schools has started. For the first time this year, all pupils of public schools shall receive textbooks free of charge.
  • Finances allocated for vocational education development and accessibility have increased, new model of financing vocational students is being created, new vocational institutions will be founded etc.
  • Within the MCC 5-year educational project, 140 million USD was allocated for the development of Georgian education system. The amount of money shall be used for general as well as vocational and higher education, several schools will be constructed and additionally 150 schools will be repaired.
  • School rehabilitation process has started, up to 600 public schools will be rehabilitated, heating will be installed in 42 public schools and schools will be equipped.
  •  All first-graders shall receive computers
