The teachers can apply on the website: www.tlg.gov.ge starting from March 1, 2010. This website was specifically created for this project, where the volunteer teachers can also find the complete information about Georgia, its history and culture as well as may apply to volunteer.
The volunteer teachers will arrive in Georgia in July 2010. During the first two months, they will learn about our country and will have an opportunity to learn Georgian language if they wish so. After beginning the academic year, the teachers will be involved in the educational process. This educational project covers almost half of entire schools of Georgian cities and villages, including schools with small number of children. The English speakers will arrive in our country from the U.S.A, Great Britain, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
The Minister Shashkini made an announcement about the new educational project at American Peace Corps conference, which was arranged by the Georgian representatives of the agency. The Peace Corps is an independent agency of the U.S.A., which was established by John F. Kennedy in 1961. The main aim of this agency was to promote peace and friendship around the world. The project is being implemented by American volunteers outside their home country.
The Peace Corps has been operating in Georgia since 2001 and the first project was implemented by cooperation in the educational sphere. In the framework of this project, which is done together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, American volunteers arrive in Georgia for two years and teach with the Georgian teachers in the public schools who, with the help of these volunteers get introduced to new methods and approaches.
The activities of the Peace Corps is very productive in Georgia and the government’s new project “Teach and Learn with Georgia” will be based on this existing successful experience.
On February 14, the Peace Corps held a conference with the participation of American volunteer teachers, who arrived in Georgia for their two-year agreement. They are located in Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti regional schools. Dimitri Shashkini introduced them with the detailed information and answered questions about the project as well as the ongoing education reforms.
