School year 2013-2014 begins

September 16, 2013 - New school year started in public schools of Georgia. Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamar Sanikidze congratulated pupils and students with the beginning of the school year 2013-2014 at one of the largest schools in Tbilisi – Public School 47.

These are the novelties for the year:

  • Salaries of more than 60 000 teachers and up to 20 000 administrative personnel of public schools have increased
  • All public school pupils have been given school textbooks
  • Free textbooks have been given to socially unprotected pupils and those pupils who were registered in private schools as a result of expropriation of school buildings and also, to the children of soldiers who died during the War in 2008.
  • More than 600 schools throughout Georgia have been rehabilitated; works are still under way.
  • Construction of 9 new schools are planned to begin, the projects are prepared and finished.
  • School bus program continues. About 45 000 pupils of 906 public schools will be provided with school bus service free of charge from the beginning of the new school year.  
  • Scheme of the supplement to the salary for certified teachers is planned to be altered and become more flexible
  • Every first grader shall receive “Buki” with improved technical characteristics and programs. It is possible to use “Buki” not only for the first grade but also for the second and third grades. Game updates and creation of new games will continue in future.
  • For the first time this year, every first grade head teacher will receive a personal computer instead of “Buki”
  • Availability of the internet in every school will make enable teachers to work with electronic resources.
  • All public schools shall transfer to electronic system of correspondence instead of paper work
  • New type of school register have been introduced, electronic piloting is planned to begin in 15 public schools
  • Structure of a pupil’s personal file has changed
  • Integrated class for the pupils with special educational needs has been opened in two schools (#166, #64)
  • Additionally, a special teacher shall work in every public school with pupils with special educational needs. The Ministry shall finance special teachers.
  • A special school has been organized at Iashvili Clinic  for children suffering from leukemia
  • Subject guidelines have been prepared for teachers. These guides will be uploaded to the electronic library of the Ministry.
  • All Resource Centers shall have a lawyer assisting schools in legal issues.
  • Career planning and professional orientation course shall start in schools. This course will enable pupils to realize their career possibilities.
