Since 2013 the Ministry of Education and Science carries runs special program in the frames of which integrated classes can be opened, where learners with autistic disorder will study. One of such classes functions in the school N 72, where learners can study using special methods of education. The program is based on national educational plan and is specialized on abilities and needs of learners with autistic disorder.
The aim of integrated class is to support development of learner’s social abilities, relationship with classmates, and behavior management for the learners in need of special educational program to be able to have active communication and improve involvement quality in the study process. Specialists of integrated classes use social, study, behavior and everyday life improving methods. This attitude is necessary, because autistic disorder influences verbal and non-verbal communication among learners, establishing of social relations and development processes.
Integrated class is equipped with additional supporting resources and inventory. Teacher, psychologist, special teacher, supporting teacher and supporting specialist were appointed through competition for integrated class. In this class the educational program meets needs of each learner. There are lessons held for teachers and learners of the school together.
Inclusive education is one of priority fields of educational system of the Ministry of Science and Education. The Ministry implements several important projects for above mentioned learners, among them inclusive education support program, in the frames of which the integrated classes function. Besides, the ministry plans to appoint special teachers in every school in Georgia with at least one learner with autistic spectrum disorder, who will work with mentioned learners. .
Two additional integrated classes are planned to be opened in 2015.
