Humanitarian projects sponsored by the European Command of the Department of Defense of United States of America, response to the efforts of Georgian government to make proper conditions for people with disabilities, in particularly it contributes to accomplishing one of priorities of Ministry of Education from year 2014 – improving learning conditions for Hearing impaired students.
Above mentioned project includes installation of special call bells (winking), which is one of important point for adaptation of the building for hearing impaired and deaf students.
The United States European Command sponsored projects for transferring of more than 400 pieces of furniture and school inventory worth for 28 000 USD, also transfer of two minibuses, which costs (both) 49 000 USD. Above mentioned projects, which was carried out with the help of USA Embassy’s Office of Defense Cooperation will contribute for improvement of study process for 163 hearing impaired students and facilitate the work of the school staff, consisted from 127 persons.
As for future projects, Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia begins to work on standards of sign language and on special programs, which will facilitate learning process of hearing impaired and deaf students. Accordingly, there is planned to create first stage sign language manual in accordance with levels, also in standard there is planned consideration of school readiness class.
