The project has already been carried out in 100 public schools throughout Georgia. At this point, nurse’s offices are being implemented at up to 200 schools. And step by step, every public school will have a nurse’s office equipped with the right inventory and provided with appropriate drugs and other resources.
Physicians are assigned to the nurse’s offices by the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia. The establishment and equipment of medical cabinets are financed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.
The initiation of the project was brought about by urgent need – for years, most schools depended only on the service of emergency medical service and they were not involved in vaccination processes. There was neither data about pupils’ health situations nor an adequate mechanism for the performance of referral. The schools were detected to be epidemiologically unreliable and there was lack of information and knowledge about hygiene. All of these problems will be solved through the new project, and pupils will have access to qualified first aid at school.
