In March 2015 the first multifunctional University Clinic, staffed by high-ranking professionals, began functioning. Here, along with theoretical knowledge, students and residents acquire practical skills, and as for the academic staff, they have a unique opportunity to conduct research. Today the Georgian Minister of Education and Science visited the clinic and familiarized herself with its operation,. She met students and talked to patients and also witnessed the first new-born of the clinic.

The proper operation of the University clinic, which provides 185 beds, and equipping it with modern laboratories and the facilities needed for radiological diagnostics and high-tech medical research, were executed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia. The clinic already works at full stretch – it receives patients, and regular operations of various kinds are performed in which, together with professors, students of Medical University are directly involved.

The clinic has already received 417 inpatients and 761 outpatients, and planned and urgent operations have been performed. Here, in the lecture-halls equipped according to modern standards, students are offered lectures and practical workshops. It is important that Medical University students have an opportunity to online watch surgical operations or other manipulations on a specially installed screen and discuss particular medical issues in academic or practical context with the professor, - said Professor Zurab Vadatchkoria, rector of Tbilisi State Medical University.

More than 6000 Georgian and 2000 foreign students are attending trainings and gaining practical skills. In addition to this, University Clinic, employing 600 employees, provides high-quality medical service not only to the population of Tbilisi but also the population of all of Georgia.
