First-time entry of School Resource Officers to certain schools
11.05.2015
School Resource Officers will enter seven public schools in certain regions of Kvemo Kartli for the first time and start doing their duty. These regions are: Marneuli, Bolnisi and Gardabani. Today the Georgian Minister of Education and Science, together with representatives of the Office of Resource Officers of educational institutions, met school resource officers and wished them success. The meeting was held at Marneuli Public School #6.

At this point, resource officers are doing their duty at 409 public schools, three private schools, two vocational schools and one academy throughout the country. There is still a huge demand for the Office of Resource Officers at schools where the service of resource officers is yet to be introduced.

Over the last two years the Office of Resource Officers underwent significant qualitative and practical changes and became established as a safety-focused institution that offers schools complex service which includes resource officers, psychological centers, professional orientation and career planning at school.

The role of the resource officer has changed significantly – nowadays they are focused on the safety of the pupil/student, teacher and administration of the educational institution, and on crime prevention.  As a result, the credibility of the Office of Resource Officers has notably increased thanks to school crime rates having decreased by 21 % compared to the previous year.

Resource officers continuously learn from international experiences, raise qualifications in accordance with the local requirements and systematically receive training through new programmes.

The Office of Resource Officers intensively cooperates with international organizations, such as UNICEF, USAID, PH International and NASRO. This cooperation makes the operation effective and will continuously deepen.
