Presentation of School Infrastructure Projects

A proper school infrastructure is a premise of improved study. The ministry has fully studied the infrastructure of public schools and as a result maintenance and rehabilitation works were planned and started in 2013. Tamar Sanikidze has held a presentation for journalists today were she spoke about infrastructure projects in detail and answered all their questions.

Planning of a school rehabilitation process was a necessity and it is divided on two stages. Mainly, it is a fundamental rehabilitation and interior works and in a parallel regime, new schools are being built and equipped.

According to rehabilitation plan fundamental works will have been finished in all schools by 2016-2017. It is important that during the fundamental rehabilitation the school building are being adapted for inclusive education.

Statistics:

  • 8 new public schools have been built and 10 of them were fully rehabilitated;
  • 8 new public schools are being built;
  • 14 new school are being projected;
  • 1014 school have been partially (fundamentally) rehabilitated;
  • Rehabilitation of 34 sport halls and 11 sport ground has  been finished;
  • Medical cabinets have been equipped in 233 public schools;
  • 1518 schools have been equipped with 103 169 desks and 5000 blackboards.

In 2015:

  • 6 public schools to be built;
  • Approximately 350 public schools to be partially (fundamentally) rehabilitated;
  • 18 spot halls to rehabilitated;
  • School will equipped with new furniture – 125 332 pieces.

Approximately 300 000 students have better conditions and environment for study now ant that is a premise for improved study results.

The project of developing an educational infrastructure is promoted by Millennium Challenge Account – Georgia together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia in scope of the second 140 million dollars compact of the USA Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). The goal of the project is to improve a studying environment and availability. Project also concerns maintenance of infrastructure systems (Operations and Maintenance - O&M).

 Rehabilitation of 100 schools is planned by the compact during next four years. 30 of those schools are to be rehabilitated in 2015. A rehabilitation season of 2015 includes schools in regions of Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Shida Kartly, Samtskhe-Javakhety and Racha-Lechkhumi.

A studying environment for about 36 thoousand students will be improved as a result of the project.
