The document of educational policy for the national minorities got into the practise

One of the priority for the Ministry Of Education and Science of Georgia is the availability of uninterrupted and qualified education for the ethnical minorities and preservation of their  language  and cultural identity. The Ministry, with the involvement of local and international experts, worked out the education policy document for the ethnic minorities. The educational policy touches upon  the school, vocational and higher education, also the supplement with pedagogic tutors.

For the aim of perfection document, The Ministry of Education with support of United Nation Children’s Fund, held three days conference where they examined working version of educational policy document for the ethnic minorities. The target of conference was to study the analytical works  made by the Ministry , and analyses of the concluded researches. Also the completion of imposed obligations and action plan for ethnic minorities in society integration.

The conference was attended by the Deputy of Minister Ms.Lia Gigauri, Deputy of Minister Regional Development and Infrastructure Ms. Eka Sepashvili, also by the Eva Chelinski  - regional director European centre for minority issues “Caucasus”, also the representatives of Ministry and its subsidiary institutions and representatives of non- governmental and international organisations.

Together with the invited international  guests,  the members of educational sector, assessed the  strengths and weaknesses of concluded and ongoing programs, argued about potential challenges and  different approaches how to operate them.

Recommendations concerned  the planning and policy formation,  that implies the involvement of civil society and support from international organisations.

During the working meetings they underline the international obligations taken by the country - Georgia has signed the most documents of Council of Europe and European Commission in the sphere of human and minority rights. They also mentioned the importance of strategic view,  that implies the minorities’ integration in civil society and ensuring their equality on the civil level.
