Pedagogical Education Reform

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia has launched a reform concerning a pedagogical education. The reform itself is divided into medium and long term stages. Under the medium-term stage, the personnel will undergo a training with the help of the most modern and updated methods and practices. Furthermore, a one-year university training and educational program (60 credits) is bound to be launched from Septermber, 2016. The above-mentioned university training and educational program enables an applicant with the desire to become a teacher, whilst having a higher education background to choose a corresponding university program and become a teacher. 
The applicants of this program will be funded by the deficit, in Tbilisi as well as in the regions. The special program has already been funded by the State. The one-year program is assembled in a way; that provides with a substantial competence confirmation in conjunction with the training of university teachers.  In order to attract highly motivated and enthusiastic applicants, it was decided, that upon finishing the program, trained teachers will start a job according to their level of professional development, and receive a remuneration equivalent to the current average-salary in Georgia.

 

As for the long-term action plan for 2016-2017, a 300 credit programs will be developed, and launched by 2017-2018.  Within the scope of long-term University Pedagogical Education reform, from the beginning of 2017-2018 academic year, a teacher integrated Bachelor-Master's 5-year educational program (300 credits) will be activated.
