In order to create a future platform of higher education and science, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia hosted an organizational meeting. Up to 60 students of different universities attended the meeting.

The deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia discussed the topics such as autonomy, academic freedom and other problems related to the higher education. According to the Vice Minister, Ministry keeps fulfilling promises. More specifically, special platform has been created. Platform will be open to everyone willing to participate in the processes related to the higher education, such as educational reform, quality improvement, increasing participation of the students into different processes, regulating student life and so on… According to him, the Ministry is not going to keep the regime of never-finished negotiations, because specific issues have to be solved quickly.  Therefore the next meeting will take place in the new dormitory built by the government. Meeting will discuss educational quality improvement.

According to Sharvashidze, it is important that the government has 4 paragraph plan where one of the main parts is taken by the education. This points on the fact that not only the political will but also the readiness of taking radical, fast and crucial steps in direction of improving educational system, exists.

Tornike Chivadze, representing the “Students for the Academic Liberty” says that they have already agreed on the next meeting with the Vice Minister and the next meeting will discuss international standards. Also the members of “Auditorium 115” had been attending the meeting, however they soon left.
