The Minister of Education and Science paid a visit to the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The first flow of the public school Guards are being trained there for two weeks. The professors and the teachers of the academy teach them the practical abilities as well as the theoretical material. The Guards also pass the psychological tests.

The teachers and the schoolchildren, together with the Minister got familiarized with the educational process of the Guards. They noted unanimously, the establishment of the Guard institute is very important for the security at schools. The guards will ensure the safety of the teachers and the schoolchildren. They will prevent the juvenile crime and also support the children psychologically, if they need. The schoolchildren, as well as the teachers were pleased to receive the information about the educational process of the Guards.

On April, 15 the Guards will enter Tbilisi 10 pilot schools. The groups will be formed with 2 men and one woman.  In the framework of the American project, all Guards will be trained specially in order to implement their main responsibility – maintaining the order at schools.

Establishing the Guard Institute is one of the components of the Safe School. The prevention of the conflicts and the crime, also supporting   the schoolchildren are the main responsibilities of the Guards. The function of the Guards is to care for the security of the children. They are subordinated to the Ministry of Education and Science and have no right of punishment.

The school Guards will be located in the rooms, equipped with the informational technologies. They will observe the outward and the internal perimeter through the cameras, set up throughout the whole school. They will be equipped with the uniforms and the modern communicational techniques.

The Guard is obliged to evaluate the conflict and ask the principle for the reaction, if it is necessary. If the situation is strained, the Guards can inform parents and the Ministry of Education and Science. In the extreme case, they have the right to call the police.

The goal of the new initiative of the Ministry is to ensure the safety of the schoolchildren during the educational process.
