The Millennium Challenge Account held the presentation of the
activities implemented in 2016. As a result of the activities carried out
within the Compact, 1.7 million lives of Georgian citizens will change for the
better.
The activities carried out by the Account in 2016 include:
General education:
- Rehabilitation
of 30 public schools started in the regions;
- Rehabilitation
was carried out and 12 public schools were equipped with modern laboratories
of natural sciences;
- Learning
environment will be improved for more than 6 400 students
- 9 000
teachers were retrained. 1 700 school directors and 1 300 school
facilitators have undergone special training;
- Georgia participated in
international researches: PISA, TALIS, TIMMS.
Vocational education
10 projects were funded with the 12 million USD grant as the
result of grant competition of vocational education.
- More
than 45 new vocational education programs will be launched in the
following fields: engineering, railway, tourism, fisheries, aviation, maritime,
unformation technology, agriculture, health and safety;
- Social
enterprise was established in public school;
- Work-based
informal education programs have been created;
- Strategy
for career planning and communication with employers was defined;
- Employer forums were organized.
Higher education
- Electrical engineering and chemistry labs were renovated and
equipped with the latest technologies at Tbilisi State University and Georgian
Technical University;
- The joint building of San Diego State University and Ilia State
University was founded;
- More than 50 professors and teachers have participated in
professional development programs in San Diego State University, California.
The second 140 million USD compact is implemented by the
Millennium Challenge Account in Georgia. The Compact was signed by and between
the US Millennium Challenge Corporation and the Government of Georgia on July
26, 2013. The agreement entered into force on July 1, 2014. The compact
envisages implementation of the project for development of engineering,
technological and natural science education quality and human capital until 2019,
inclusive. Consequently, each project will contribute to overcoming
unemployment and strengthening the economy.
