The Passing Points of the Teachers’ Certification Exams Have Been Defined

The Ministry of Education and Science has already defined the minimal competency levels and the dates of the teachers’ certification exams. The Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini, together with the Director of the National Examination Center, Maia Miminoshvili announced this information officially.

At the first stage, the exams will be held in Georgian Language and Literature, mathematics and foreign language as well as in general abilities. So, around 20.000 subject matter teachers had opportunity to take participation in these exams. The teachers’ maximal activity is noted at this time. 10,720 teachers have already registered for participation. This means, teachers really wish to improve qualification and the government supports them maximally. The exams will be held in July.

 The National Examination Center defined the barriers in all subjects according to the result analyzes of the pre-tests. The teachers will have to mount up more than 60 % in each exam in order to receive the certificate. Following maximal points have been defined in professional abilities and the subject tests: professional ability tests – 80 points, Georgian Language and Literature – 80 points, foreign language tests – 120 points and the tests in mathematics – 70 points.

The participants will have 5 hours in professional ability, Georgian Language and Literature and the mathematics exams. 3 hours and 15 minutes will be given for foreign language tests. Around 40 % of the teaching methodologies cover the subject tests. The left 60% includes the subject knowledge.

The teachers, who cross the barriers, will receive the increased salary and the opportunity to work as mentor teachers. This also means additional salary of 160 GEL. The certification exams are voluntary and the government finances it. The National Examination Center organizes the exams and creates the tests. The deadline for the teachers’ registration is on April, 15.
