A Large-Scale Project is launched for Non-Georgian Language Teachers and Directors

“Teacher and School Director Professional Development Project” of “Millennium Challenge Account – Georgia”, implemented by the National Center for Teacher Professional Development, starts large-scale retraining of teachers and directors of non-Georgian language schools for the first time in general education.

Within the framework of the project, during 2017-2019 years:

  • 2 177 teachers of 7-12 grades of chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, English and geography of non-Georgian language schools and sectors will be trained;
  • 213 directors of the non-Georgian language public schools and professional development facilitators at the school base selected within the framework of the project in the same school will be trained.

As needed, the trainings and working meetings will be conducted in ethnic minority languages, in particular Azeri, Russian and Armenian languages. Accordingly, the training materials were translated for them specifically. The trainers speaking Russian, Armenian and Azeri languages will also be trained to conduct the above trainings afterwards.

The teachers will undergo two training courses: in general skills and subject methods course in “Active Teaching in Subjects” (physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, geography and English language).

As for the directors, the Academy of Leadership will be launched, consisting of three stages and aiming at continuing professional development of public school directors.

Successful completion of the Professional Development Program will help the school directors to improve their practice in the following directions:

  • Effective management of time, finance and human resources;
  • Improvement of the school-oriented learning environment;
  • Development of learning topics;
  • Introduction of innovative and interactive methods in school;
  • Introduction of long-term development oriented monitoring and assessment system.
