K. Kekelidze Georgian National Center of Manuscripts is preparing the collection of essays – “Medieval Georgian Writings in the Christian East and Byzantium”. This Georgian and English-language book will consistently provide the history of Georgian literary activities in foreign monasteries (Palestine, Mount Sinai, Athoni, Constantinople, Black Mountain, Petritsoni); the work will provide how the Georgians living abroad acquired the ideas and values that were vital for the Christian world of that time, how these values became the organic part of Georgian national literature and thinking, in general.
The collection will also focus on cultural, ethnic and social aspects of activities of the Georgians in foreign monasteries, the relationship of different literary centers with each other and with Georgia, relations of Georgian scribes working in “strange” - multicultural and multilingual environment with the representatives of other nationalities, the ways they got adapted in the new environment and the impact of that environment on their spiritual or intellectual development.
The project is funded within the framework of the grant of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of the Ministry.
