Healthy Life Festival was held

The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia launched a large-scale campaign to promote healthy lifestyle in public schools. Within the frameworks of the campaign, a healthy life festival was held at the summer camp of pupils at Baxwood International School. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness about healthy food products among the pupils. The Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Education and Science - Aleksandre Jejelava, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs - Tariel Khechikashvili, representatives of the Ministry of Health, famous sportsmen Vladimir Boisa and Levan Kobiashvili, as well as the rugby and football players joined the festival.

At this stage 300 pupils from different parts of Georgia of 7th, 8th and 9th grades are on holiday in Tskneti camp. Among them there are excellent pupils, pupils of small contingent schools and ethnic minorities, residents of the occupied territories and others.

Within the frameworks of the festival, pupils were involved in various events from the morning - training on healthy life, participation in creation of slogans and posters on healthy lifestyle, sports competitions in rugby, football, basketball and grass hockey, the sportsmen took part in the competitions together with the children. Culinary marathon was also held - who would be quicker in selection of health products, slogans and posters exhibition was organized and the best among them was revealed by the jury.

The authors of distinguished slogans and posters, as well as the winners of various competitions were awarded by the ministers. The pupils were awarded by the representatives of the Ministry of Health and company “Geocell”, Vladimer Boisa gifted the books about his successful sports life to the pupils interested in basketball. “Ambassadors of Healthy Life” were also nominated within the frameworks of the festival – the pupils, who will promote healthy lifestyle in their cities, regions or rural schools. 

For the purpose of establishment of a healthy lifestyle in schools:

Schools have already been recommended to offer pupils only healthy product from new academic year. In addition, the Ministry has already developed the general rule of functioning of school buffets, according to which the business operators are prohibited to bring unhealthy foods to schools such as snack chips, candy, chocolates, carbonated drinks (except carbonated mineral water) and in general overly saline and products with high sugar content.
