At the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, the annual International Conference “Humboldt-Kolleg” of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation was opened, which will gather holders of fellowship of the Humboldt Foundation and laureates of the Humboldt Research Prize from 12 countries within three days. Georgia is hosting the conference in connection to the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Georgia and Germany and the year 2017 as year of Germany-Georgia. The theme of the conference is “places of German-Georgian meeting in literature and culture of XX century “. The organizer of the conference is the president of Alexander von Humboldt Club of Georgia, Professor Aleksandre Kartozia.

The Humboldt Foundation finances international scientific researches and sponsors both young and well-recognized scientists. Georgian Humboldt Club has more than 30 members. The members of the club are Georgian scientists, who at different times were holders of fellowship of Humboldt Foundation or laureates of the Humboldt Research Prize. The opening ceremony was attended by the Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Education and Science Aleksandre Jejelava, Minister of Defense of Georgia Levan Izoria, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Georgia Heike Paich. Humboldt Prize laureates, Tamaz Gamkrelidze (Georgia), Konstantin Azadovski (Russia) and Anil Bhatt (India) presented their reports to the participants.

This large-scale representative conference, known as “Humboldt-Kolleg” is funded by the German state fund. HUMBOLDT-KOLLEG is held outside Germany annually.
