Tbilisi hosts International Conference

The conference – “Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education in Eastern Partnership Countries” - will be held on November 21-22, 2017, at the National Center for Teachers Professional Development.

The conference is being held within the frameworks of the three-year project of the Council of Europe and the European Union “Promoting of Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education in 6 Eastern Partnership Countries”. Partner of the project in Georgia is the National Center for Teachers Professional Development.

Two-day conference aims to analyze the works done in the partner countries during three years, to submit the results and to set the future goals, as well as to share the experiences and practices obtained during the project.

The representatives of the education field from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia participate in the conference.

The event is attended by the delegation from Strasbourg, headed by the representative of the Education Department of the Council of Europe.

It should be noted that Georgia is one of the active partners of the project. Within the project:

  • The trainers of the Council of Europe held 100-hour trainings (in two stages);
  • Priority was given not only to working with current teachers, but it was especially important to care for the future teachers’ competence;
  • In the direction of education for democratic citizenship, approximately 12 courses have been developed / revised in the higher education institutions (9 universities), where teachers’ training programs are implemented;
  • Courses for both bachelor’s and master’s degree were created, accredited and enforced (both mandatory and optional);
  • School and university cooperation project was developed and tested: Future Teachers' Practices in School for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education.
