Dialogue was held with the participation of the representatives of the Government of Georgia and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on the issues of disability. The goal of the workshop was to identify the shortcomings by involvement of the representatives from different agencies that prevent the children with disabilities from benefit of social services. Dialogue also implied elaboration of specific recommendations and determination of future steps. From the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Deputy Minister Lia Gigauri participated in the dialogue.
As it is known, Georgia has joined the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and took the obligation to protect the fundamental rights of persons/children with disabilities, including the rights to life, health care, education and social rights.
The Government of Georgia, the Ministry of Education and Science and the United Nations Children’s Fund successfully cooperate with the purpose of implementation of the Convention and development of the national policy and programs regarding disabilities.
