The Ministry of Education and Science and the Teacher Professional Development Center announces competitions on new programs - Teach for Georgia and Qualified Teachers in the regional schools of Ethnic Minorities. Subject matter specialists and experienced teachers of Georgian Language and Literature can participate in the competition. The Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini and the Director of Teacher Professional Development Center, Gia Mamulashvili held a briefing on this issue at the Ministry.

The program Teach for Georgia began in 2009. It envisages employing qualified subject matter specialists in the schools of mountainous regions of Georgia. Lack of staff presents particular problem there. Previous year, selected teachers were receiving additional 250 GEL besides the salary. Fellowships will be doubled from the next academic year and will amount to 500 GEL (gross 400 GEL).

The goal of the program Teach for Georgia is to support teaching Georgian language. It envisages sending experienced teachers of Georgian Language and Literature in the regional non-Georgian schools of ethnic minorities.  The salary of the teachers, who participate in the program amounts to 1000 GEL (gross).

Implementing above mentioned programs began in 2009. Around 100 teachers were involved in these programs. Employing additional staff is foreseen this year in order to engage more villages and communities in teaching the National language and generally, to improve educational process.
