Around 30 12th graders of Mtskheta Public School №2 visited Vaziani military base in the scope of Civil Defence and Safe School programs. Soldiers of Forth Infantry Brigade hosted them. Adults inspected military techniques, got familiarized with the training courses of the soldiers and their equipment. The schoolchildren also tasted the dinner of the soldiers. Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Irine Kurdadze and Deputy Defence Minister, Nika Dzimtseishvili participated in this event.
In the framework of the second stage of the reforms, the Ministry of Education and Science plans to introduce new educational course of Civil Defence and Safety from the next academic year. Therefore, similar joint project with the Ministry of Defence is very important.
Introducing the new subject is initiated by the President of Georgia. The goal of this course is to familiarize future generation with different dangers, military techniques of the country, rule of utilization and teach them how to protect themselves. The new course envisages road safety, first aid, history of Georgian army and review of the Georgian armament.
Teaching of new discipline is underway at fifteen pilot schools throughout of the whole Georgia. Mtskheta Public School №2 is among them. Teaching of the new course will begin from 2010-2011 academic years at all schools. The new course will be divided in three levels – the schoolchildren of primary school will study it in easy way. Different directions will be added to the discipline for elder children. Military-patriotic subject will become an ordinary subject like history, geography and etc.
