In the framework of ongoing educational reforms, the MES began refurbishing school canteens in compliance with modern standards.  The first canteen was renovated in Tbilisi Public School №55. The President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili and the Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini personally opened this canteen.

The new canteen is in compliance with modern standards and the schoolchildren will be provided with healthy food.

 Canteen of Public School №55 was refurbished and supplied with modern equipment with the support of company “Gogli Mogli”. For the first time in Georgia, school children will be able to buy food with credit cards. These credit cards were provided by “Taoprivatbank” free of charge. Parents will transfer desired amount of money to these cards and children will be able to use them only in school canteens. This opportunity will help parents and their children not to argue about money. Abolishing cash and introducing credit cards at schools are one of the top priorities of Safe School program. These innovations are designed to develop the concept of safe and healthy schools. Besides the canteen of Public School №55, company “Gogli Mogli” refurbished canteen of Public School №43 in compliance with modern standards.

New projects will be piloted in 20 Tbilisi Public Schools and afterwards, they will be introduced in all public schools step by step. After bidding, companies will enter schools in order to provide them with food services. School canteens will be refurbished and each company will be responsible for healthy food at schools.
