The President of Georgia Awarded Winners of National Educational Olympiad

The President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili awarded 123 winners of Olympiad with prizes. 3 non-Georgian participants were presented with portable computers as well.

Mikheil Saakashvili spoke about ongoing educational reforms and evaluated them positively at the event that was held in the President’s palace.

More than 100, 000 schoolchildren of different regions of Georgia participated in 2010 National Educational Olympiad. Around 10,000 non-Georgian schoolchildren applied for participation as well. 10 visually impaired students also participated in the Olympiad.

National Olympiad was carried out in three rounds in Georgian, Armenian, Azerbaijanian and Russian languages. For the first time this year, Olympiad was held in foreign languages. Schoolchildren had opportunity to participate in different subjects.

The winners of 2009-2010 National Educational Olympiad were awarded with following prizes: 34 participants, who took the first place, each received 1250 Gel. 41 winners, who took the second place were presented with 875 Gel, 48 holders of the third place were awarded with 625 Gel.  Prizes also received rating schools.

The goal of National Educational Olympiad is to identify talented schoolchildren, support the school reforms, encourage teachers and schoolchildren throughout the learning process and identify members of National team for International Olympiads.

Educational Olympiad initiated by the President turned out very important for schools of Georgia. This event has already become the stimulus for the schoolchildren as well as the teachers. The winners become the members of National team and arrive in Georgia with victory in international Olympiads. National team of Georgia gained 4 silver, 5 bronze and 1 medals of Honor in 2009 international Olympiads.
