Discussion of Draft Plan of Teachers' Ethics Code Began

Draft plan of teachers’ professional ethics code was discussed at the meeting of the representatives of NGOs at the Ministry of Education and Science. Deputy Minister, Irine Kurdadze, Head of Teacher Professional Development Center, Gia Mamulashvili and the representatives of this center participated in the meeting.

In order to improve educational process, schools should develop ethical and healthy relations among the participants of educational process as well as offer them high quality education.

Teachers’ professional ethics code regulates norms of behavior of the teachers of general educational institutions. Code evaluates teachers’ professional competency level. It is binding for the schoolchildren, parents/legal representatives, teachers and other employees at school. The goal of ethics code is to assist teachers in directing ethical activities.

Teachers’ professional ethics code is innovation in Georgia. But this code functions in all Western developed countries and is taught at all Western universities to the future teachers.

Different working groups have already met to discuss teachers’ professional ethics code. In order to finalize this code, different meetings are planned with Advisory Board, members of the board and representatives of society. Their opinions and notices will be considered in the final version of teachers’ professional ethics code.
