The portrait of Kartl-Kakheti crown king Teimuraz II has returned to his homeland after 257 years. The portrait was backed by the support of Cartu Foundation and with the assistance of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia.
In his speech Mikheil Batiashvili emphasized the merit of the foundation "Cartu" in implementing important projects for the country. Fund has spent nearly 100 million GEL for restoring over 800 historical monuments. At present 57 monuments are rehabilitated, with the budget of 11 million GEL.
The Portrait of Teimuraz King, performed by Alexander Antropov, one of the founders of realistic painting, was still missing. In October of this year, one of the world's most famous online gallery 1Stdibs sold for 186 thousand dollars to the unknown buyer. All the details of the portrait coincided with King Teimuraz's engraving, which was created according to the Antropov painting.
Portrait of Teimuraz King will be exhibited at the State Museum of Theater, Music, Cinema and Choreography from today. For two days the door of the museum will be open for visitors and those who wish to see the king's portrait and it will be completely free of charge.
