The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Batiashvili met with the President of the Committee - Leri Khabelov, the Executive Committee members and the Presidents of the Sports Federations, together with Irakli Dolaberidze, the Deputy Head of the Sports Department, Shalva Gogoladze, Deputy Head of the National Olympic Committee of the Georgian National Olympic Committee.
At the introductory meeting with the members of the Olympic Committee, along with other officials, Shota Khabareli, member of the Parliamentary Sport and Youth Affairs Committee, also discussed the current developments and current issues in the Ministry during the change and reorganization.
The Minister talked about the priority and importance of sport, which is fully supported by the government, in conjunction with the Prime Minister's personal involvement in the development of sports, the tendency to of grow the sports budget, and many more
The meeting focused on the need for more closer cooperation between the Ministry, the Olympic Committee and the Sports Federations in 2019, as well as the implementation of new projects on infrastructure development, as well as the urgent need to facilitate the bureaucratic processes for financing and funding.
At the meeting, Mikheil Batiashvili, together with the Presidents of Weightlifting, Wrestling, Handball and Figure Skating Federations touched upon the important and problematic issues, promised to gradually solve the issues of federation leaders and promised closer and fruitful cooperation in the year of 2019.
"From 2019, we have to take care of the future development of sports with new forces and energy. It is important that sports financing is growing annually, and the new budget allows us to make significant changes.
The Prime Minister's special attitude towards sports and the great support of his and the members of the government is excellent, which will enable us to carry out important projects in the future, through infrastructure and other important directions.
Like education and culture, sport is a priority area of the state and we can work with doubled energy from next year to maximally tackle all the issues in the field of sports.
The results of Georgian sports shown in 2018 speak for themselves, and with the full support from the next year, we have to expect new achievements in sports – said Mikheil Batiashvili.
