Meeting of the Governing Board of STCU Was Held in Georgia

Representatives of USA, Canada, Ukraine and EU , who founded Science and Technology Center in Ukraine held their 2009 summary meeting in Tbilisi.

Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Nodar Surguladze, Director of Georgia National Science Foundation, Mariam Gersamia, Head of delegation of EU to Georgia, Per Eklund and the representatives of the embassies of USA, Azerbaijan and Ukraine in Georgia attended the meeting.

11 joint scientific projects were evaluated and selected in order to finance them. 381 509US dollars is planned to be allocated for these projects.255 872 US dollars will be transferred from the Foundation in the project budget.

Andrew Hood, Executive Director of STCU was awarded with the Honorary Doctor Title of Georgian Technical University.

Georgia became a member of STCU in 1998. This organization has already financed more than 100 projects of 829 Georgian scientists. Whole budget of these projects amounts to more than 10 mln US dollars.

Georgia National Science Foundation and STCU signed an Announcement of Cooperation in 2006. This agreement established the direct cooperation between these two organizations in the framework of the Program of initiatives of Research and Development.

  • The goal of the program is to advance Georgia’s scientific potential.
  • Program has the following priorities: Biotechnologies and sciences about life, energetic effectiveness, IT.

3 joint competitions of STCU and Georgia National Science Foundation were held in 2006-2008.  STCU allocated around 1.5 mln US dollars for the projects of 26 winners.

STCU is intergovernmental international organization that was established in 1993. The goal of the organization is to direct Georgian specialists’ and the so called nuclear weapon inventor scientists’ activities of former Soviet Union towards peaceful aims. The center is formed with three donors: EU, USA and Canada. Fourth full partner is Ukraine. Latter, Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan became the members of this center.
