On June 21, Zviad Gabisonia, Director General of Shota Rustaveli Georgian National Science Foundation and Deputy Director - Jaba Samushia at Shota Meskhia university held a meeting with professors and teachers of higher education institutions of the region at Zugdidi State University. The meeting was opened by Professor Teona Khupunia, rector of Shota Meskhia Zugdidi Teaching University. The Director General of the Fund Zviad Gabisonia talked about the main aspects of science reform, priority scientific directions for the state, including projects planned for applied research, commercialization of research, science and the participation of the private sector. He also focused on the priorities of the Rustaveli Foundation, the main directions, its new programs and competitions, future projects, the introduction of modern technologies in science management.

The meeting also discussed issues related to renewing of scientific infrastructure and opening new scientific laboratories. The attendees discussed the importance of regional scientific projects. The meeting ended in a question-answer mode. After visiting the University, the Director General of the Fund Zviad Gabisonia, as the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Festival of Science and Innovation, met Giorgi Shengelia, the Mayor of Zugdidi and introduced the organizational issues of the festival in September, including the preparation of Zugdidi scientific picnic on September 26. The mayor of Zugdidi promised full support and commitment on the logistical aspect.
