The First Stage of Registering Practitioner Teachers Reaching Retirement is Over!

Irina Abuladze, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport held a briefing on this issue and noted that about 6,000 teachers were registered in the first phase, which is half of the teachers who have reached the retirement age.

Teachers who choose to leave the profession on a voluntary basis will receive a two-year salary starting at the beginning of October this year. At the same time, they will keep their teacher's health insurance package for the rest of their lives - changes are made to the relevant normative acts in this regard.

It is also important to note that teachers of retirement age can apply for the award by the end of 2019. Accordingly, the second stage of the award will be held at the end of the year.

According to Irina Abuladze, the state is immensely grateful to the teachers who have contributed greatly to the education in Georgia and who have raised many generations. She also personally thanked the teachers, school administration and educational resource centers for organizing the process at the highest level possible.

The Deputy Minister reiterated at the briefing that the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia is implementing a comprehensive reform of the education system, the main goal of which is to raise the level of knowledge, learning and teaching and to provide quality education throughout the country. Fundamental changes are underway at all levels of the education system.

“We would like to remind you that based on the relevant legislative changes in 2019, a quarter of Georgia's budget will be spent on education by 2022, but there is still a gradual, steady increase in funding for education, which obviously means increasing pay for senior, leading, mentor teachers.
