Deputy
Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia - Irine Abuladze
held a meeting with Director of the European School – Mr. Fran van de Kerkhoff
and other representatives of the school in Hague.
The
Hague European School offers European undergraduate programs to more than 1,000
students at preschool, elementary and high school levels, providing access to
high quality European education in a multi-ethnic and multicultural
environment.
The
meeting focused on the possibilities of introducing European school education
within the context of Georgia’s education system and emphasized the importance
of introducing European values to the current model, through the strengthening
of the mother tongue, national identity.
The establishment of a similar school was announced in September this year as
part of a high-profile visit by the European Commission and will be funded by
the Georgian government in cooperation with the EU.
European
and Eastern Partnership students will have the opportunity to study at the
European School. The school curriculum will be fused with key elements of the
European curriculum and will be accredited by the International Baccalaureate
Organization. Upon completion of their studies, students enrolled in the
program will receive an International Baccalaureate DP certificate.
In
order to achieve this goal, there will be infrastructure works beginning in the
first quarter of 2020, in conjunction with implementing various teacher
training programs in foreign languages, IT and pedagogy & education.
The
school is set out to start operating in the school year of 2023 and will
receive students in for the classes between 7 and 12. The school will also be
home to students from both the regions of Georgia and Eastern Partnership
member states.
