With the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation, in cooperation with the Norwegian Directorate of Cultural Heritage, a unified geographical information portal for cultural heritage has been developed.

The above mentioned database functions on the following information portal - memkvidreoba.gov.ge and includes a variety of features, such as interactive maps, pictures, descriptions, history behind and the exact location of each of the cultural heritage, such as: protected zones and national parks, museum collections, murals, wall paintings, stone works or rare exhibits.

The presentation was attended by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia - Mikheil Chkhenkeli attended, who addressed the presentation attendees.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli: "Today a very important project was presented. It is a geo information system and a GIS portal that serves to describe, protect, disseminate and manage our national cultural heritage. All this was possible to our Norwegian colleagues, and I would like to take this opportunity and thank them for their continuous support in this endeavor. The project is a very important scientific and educational component, and I hope that our students will be actively involved in the project implementation and operation of the system. It is of significant importance to take care of our heritage, because our future is based on the preservation of our history and who we are”.

The event was attended by Helen Sandersen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to Georgia, Nikoloz Antidze, and Director of the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation, and representatives of various governmental and non-governmental organizations and agencies.

This project is an important tool not only for the management of cultural heritage resources, but also for the spatial territorial development of the country in general. The project was implemented within the framework of cooperation between the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation of Georgia and the Directorate of Norwegian Cultural Heritage, and was fully funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his speech, the Minister emphasized the importance of this project in the field of cultural heritage and expressed a desire to actively engage students in similar projects in the future.
