Winners of the Olympiads in Exact and
Natural Sciences, the best students from Buckswood School of Science together
with their teachers travelled to Switzerland, at the European Center for Nuclear
Research (CERN).
The visit was made possible, within the
scope of the project, initiated by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture
and Sport of Georgia, which aims to attract and interest young generation in
physics, fundamental research, engineering, IT technologies and mathematics.
During their several-day visit to CERN, the
students met with Georgian and foreign scientists, got acquainted with the
latest technologies, new discoveries and important projects that CERN
scientists are currently working on. Students got acquainted with Atlas and CMS
experiments of Georgian scientists: Irakli Minashvili and Alexander
Mestvirishvili, which takes place in a 90 meters deep ultra-modern laboratory. The
Atlas and CMS experiments are among the three largest experiments on a large
hadronic collider.
The European Organization for Atomic Research (CERN) is the
world's largest laboratory for particle physics. We are especially proud of the
fact that alongside foreign scientists, Georgian scientists are actively
involved in research.
