Eka Dgebuadze, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia has introduced the news about the authorization of public schools. According to the draft law initiated by the Government of Georgia on Amendments to the Law on General Education, the process of authorization of schools will be completed by 2026-2027 instead of 2020-2021 according to the new standard.
Eka Dgebuadze: “We want a better, more accessible educational environment for our students. Our goal is to create standards that meet the international requirements. In this regard, we need to work with public schools to develop infrastructure as well as human and material resources”.
According to the Deputy Minister, considering this fact, it is expedient to postpone the terms of authorization of public schools. From 2026-2027, the authorization process will be carried out according to the new standard, which must be met by all public schools in Georgia. For what is worth, the Ministry will strengthen public schools with all resources for authorization.
This decision is due to the ongoing reform of the general education system, which aims to create a student-centered, safe, infrastructural environment at public schools. The New School Model project aims to achieve this goal, seeking to improve the overall infrastructure of public schools, as well as the introduction of new, modern methods in the teaching-learning process.
At this stage, the New School Model is being implemented in 165 public schools. From the 2020-2021 academic year, it will apply to all public schools throughout Georgia. According to the General Education Reform Action Plan, the infrastructural needs of all public schools for the 2025-2026 academic year will be met and new approaches to teaching and learning will be fully introduced in the educational process.
