Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini opened a new gym of the tenth building of TSU and announced about foundation of University Basketball League. Minister of Culture, Monument Protection and Sport, Nikoloz Rurua, President of Basketball Federation, Besik Liparteliani and Rector of TSU, Giorgi Khubua participated in the event.

Based on the initiative of MES, , University Basketball League was founded on TSU base with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Monument Protection and Sport as well as Basketball Federation. Teams of six higher educational institutions will be included in this league.

By the announcement of Dimitri Shashkini, MES will finance the basketball university competition in the next season. Universities will compete in the healthy conditions and will restore long-term university tradition.

Minister of Culture, Monument Protection and Sport, Nikoloz Rurua named Dimitri Shashkini's idea as an important initiative. According to Nikoloz Rurua, National Basketball Team will be composed with the members of the Professional League.

TSU already has Vice-Champion basketball team and girls’ volleyball champion team. From now on, students will be trained in the gym that is in compliance with modern standards. Recourses of TSU were used for refurbishing the gym and equipping it with an appropriate inventory.

In the framework of University Infrastructure Development program of MES, rehabilitative workings are underway in the buildings of TSU.
