Owing to the initiative of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, compulsory military service will be postponed until the end of the program. As a result, students will be able to continue the program uninterrupted.
To this end, the Ministry has prepared a draft amendment to the Law of Georgia on Military Obligation and Military Service, according to which young people interested in vocational education will be given the opportunity to complete their studies, become specialists in a specific field, and then start compulsory military service.
It should be noted that the proposed changes will be postponed only once and only for the duration of the program.
The development of vocational education is one of the main priorities of the Georgian government. Vocational education holds a vital significance for the economic growth and the reduction of youth unemployment, as it remains the shortest way to master a specific profession. The presented initiative will have a positive impact on the availability of vocational education, which will be of particular importance in post-pandemic processes.
