To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, and to improve the sanitary-hygienic standard at schools for the 2020-21 academic year, Ekaterine Dgebuadze, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, together with the Deputy Minister of Health (NCDC), Tamar Gabunia held a working meeting with NCDC Director, Amiran Gamkrelidze and UNICEF Georgia Representative, Ghassan Khalil.

According to the Deputy Minister, the regulation of the general education infrastructure continues intensively to observe all the norms of hygiene at schools as much as possible. To that end, it is important to follow the recommendations of health professionals to protect the health and safety of each student.

Ekaterine Dgebuadze thanked the representatives of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF Georgia) in Georgia and noted that in the process of planning the new school year it is important to share best practices from other countries, as well as the involvement of international organizations.

The meeting discussed the development of mechanisms that ensures the observance of sanitary-hygienic conditions at schools. The parties decided to set up an interagency working group with the involvement of experts to discuss in detail the issues of preparation for the new academic year, under the pandemic conditions.
