12 years have passed since the start of the August 2008 war. The President, the Speaker of the Parliament, the Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet of Ministers laid a wreath at the Mukhatgverdi Brothers Cemetery to commemorate the heroes who died in the August war and paid tribute to the memory of the deceased.
"Today we remember the hard days of August 2008 and pay tribute to the vivid memory and sacrifice of the heroic soldiers and civilians.
Georgian society will never get used to the occupation. We remain committed to a peaceful, diplomatic way of resolving conflicts and believe that there is no alternative to the policies of our government to restore the unity of the country. To overcome the occupation and all its aftermath, we continue to work consistently, purposefully with friendly and partner countries, and with the international community as a whole. At the same time, we are stepping up our work to strengthen democratic values and ensure the well-being of our citizens. I am convinced that our development and economic strength is what should unite us again with our Abkhaz and Ossetian comrades.
"Once again, I bow to the heroes who fought for the unity of Georgia and its happy future, future generations will grow on the example of their devotion!" - said the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli.
