Mikheil Chkhenkeli, a candidate for the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, addressed the joint parliamentary committees and spoke about the prestigious international tournaments that Georgia has won the right to host.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: "Georgia already has a solid experience in hosting large-scale international events and our government will continue to support this tradition for various sports and disciplines.
In 2022, Georgia will host the Eurobasket, whereas the following year, in 2023, the UEFA U-21 European Championship in Football, the final match being held at the newly built stadium in Batumi. Please note, that this will also be the year Georgia hosts the World championships in freestyle skiing and snowboarding, followed by the European Winter Youth Olympic Festival in 2025. Congratulations once again this significant recognition!”
According to the Minister, in order to promote the development of sports, the construction of sports infrastructure is currently in-progress, which will further contribute to the revival of sports tourism in the country.
