Within the framework of the official visit of the President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili to the Vatican, a memorandum of cooperation in the field of education and science was signed between the Ministry of Education and Science and the Vatican Catholic Education Congregation.
The memorandum was signed by Deputy Minister of Education and Science Nunu Mitskevichi and President of the Catholic Education Congregation, Giuseppe Versailles.
The memorandum will facilitate cooperation between the parties in the fields of education and science, in particular in the protection and research of the Christian heritage. Scholars, researchers and teachers will have the opportunity to work in Vatican libraries, archives and museum repositories, enabling the parties to exchange academic knowledge, information, experience and best practices.
According to Nunu Mitskevichi, the memorandum will enable cooperation between the Georgian National Centre for Manuscripts and the Vatican archives, as a result of which rich archival material preserved in the Vatican will be made available to Georgian researchers. The results of the research will be made public to the general public.
The memorandum will also facilitate cooperation between academic institutions and the organization of joint events, promoting culture and history through scientific research and academic activities.
