Georgia is hosting the 34th International Tournament of Young Physicists after a 25-year pause. The tournament will be held at Kutaisi International University on July 8-14. The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Mikheil Chkhenkeli participated in the opening ceremony of the tournament remotely and wished success to the young people.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “I am glad that students who have a special interest in exact and natural sciences are participating in the Young Physicists Tournament. By participating in the tournament, they will deepen their scientific-research work skills, which is especially important in the era of scientific achievements.
It is also gratifying that such a prestigious and large-scale tournament is being held at Kutaisi International University. I would like to take this opportunity to emphasize that the main project of Kutaisi International University, the author of the idea and concept of Kutaisi International University, Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili and his family.
The establishment of Kutaisi International University is an important step towards the internationalization of higher education and science. In cooperation with Georgian and international science, the functioning of the Hadron Therapy Center at the University will facilitate the treatment of oncological diseases and modern research in medicine and nuclear physics. This process will start as soon as two cyclotrons are created and will facilitate the scientific research process, as well as the treatment of the tumour with the method of ultra-modern proton therapy.
It should be noted that the national teams of 28 countries will compete in the Young Physicists Tournament for five days, including teams from 15 countries arriving in Kutaisi. Part of them will participate online due to the pandemic.
The international tournament for young physicists is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Kutaisi Municipality, Kutaisi International University and the Georgian Innovation and Technology Agency.
