Organized by the National Center for Assessment and Examinations, for the first time in Georgia, the senior special education subject exam was held, thus completing the process of certification of teacher competence in 2021.

Ekaterine Dgebuadze, First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, got acquainted with the examination session organized for special teachers at Tbilisi Public School No. 103 together with Sopho Gorgodze, Head of the National Center for Assessment and Examinations. Ekaterine Dgebuadze personally talked to the teachers and wished them success before the exam.

As the First Deputy Minister noted, in recent years the Ministry has taken a number of important steps to promote the development of inclusive education and the specialization of special education teachers. Among them, based on the amendments to the General Education Law, the education system has recognized specialists employed in inclusive education as teachers. As a result, special educators became part of the scheme and were granted practitioner teacher status.

According to Ekaterine Dgebuadze, the implementation of support programs for special teachers will continue. In addition, a special teacher subject exam will be held annually, which will allow those wishing to improve their status to prove their competence.

In 2021, more than 2,800 applicants registered for the special education subject. It is important that the examinations are conducted in full compliance with the recommendations set by the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia.

We would like to remind you that at the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, in 2021, the applicants who were confirmed to have coronavirus during the exams will not be excluded from the examination process. This news will also apply to those interested in senior special education. An additional examination session will be scheduled for them before the end of the examination period, at least 14 days after the examination of the subjects.
