Mikheil Chkhenkeli Opens International Online Conference "Ancient and Byzantine Worlds in the Light of Interdisciplinary Studies"
The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli opened the international online conference "Ancient and Byzantine World in the Light of Interdisciplinary Studies" organized by the Institute of Classical Philology, Byzantine Studies and Neo-Greek Studies at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: "I am glad that, despite the pandemic, the Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Institute of Classical Philology, Byzantine Studies and Neo-Greek Studies, is hosting an international conference of this magnitude and rank, dedicated to three important dates: the 150th jubilee anniversary of the Institute, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Department of Classical Philology and the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution.
I would like to note with special pride that TSU Institute of Classical Philology, Byzantine Studies and Neo-Greek Studies is the bearer of great traditions, a world-famous institute in this field, to which the greatest contribution is made by Professor Rismag Gordezian and each member of the institute. Today's large-scale conference, which is attended by 96 representatives from 25 countries, is a confirmation of the international scientific achievements of this institute.
I am confident that the conference will be interesting and fruitful and will contribute to the sharing of international experience, increase the awareness of the Georgian School of Greco-Roman Philology and the internationalization of the humanities. "
The conference "The Ancient and Byzantine World in the Light of Interdisciplinary Studies" is attended by 96 speakers from 25 countries and is dedicated to three important dates: the 150th anniversary of the famous classicist, Byzantine and papyrologist Grigol Tsereteli.
The topics of the conference are diverse and will relate to the scientific heritage of Grigol Tsereteli, current problems of archaeology and Byzantine studies, the relations between the ancient and Byzantine world and Georgia, the reception of the ancient and Byzantine world and so forth.
