The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, introduced the implemented and current projects, achieved results and future plans to the members of the Parliament in the field of education and science during the last one year.
In his speech, Mikheil Chkhenkeli drew attention to the initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, which are focused on providing an equally accessible learning environment at all levels of education. In this direction, the Minister emphasized the importance of the unconditional support of the Government of Georgia, which is confirmed by the annually growing budget for education and science.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: "Education and science are a priority of the Georgian government. A clear proof of this is that with the draft law "On the State Budget of Georgia for 2023", the allocations of the Ministry of Education and Science were set at two billion thirty million eight hundred thousand GEL, which exceeds the approved budget of 2022 by 345.9 million GEL. The annual growing budget gives us the opportunity to work on innovations, to improve the already achieved results and to continue the current complex reform, which includes all levels of the education system, even more actively, at a fast pace.
Moreover, during his speech, Mikheil Chkhenkeli singled out the unified national strategy of education and science for 2022-2030 approved by the Government of Georgia and the action plan of the same strategy for 2022-2024. As the minister stated, the mentioned document is based on the 10-year plan, which was presented to the public in 2021 together with the Prime Minister of Georgia, Mr. Irakli Gharibashvili. In this direction, Mikheil Chkhenkeli drew attention to the "Education Transformation Summit" held within the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, where the Prime Minister of Georgia, Mr. Irakli Gharibashvili, spoke in detail about the unified national strategy for education and science for 2022-2030.
"I would especially like to note that on September 20 of this year, at the "Education Transformation Summit" held within the framework of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, the Prime Minister of Georgia, Mr. Irakli Gharibashvili, gave a fascinating speech to the public, where he spoke in detail about the unified education and science of 2022-2030, in conjunction with discussing the implemented and planned innovations according to the national strategy. I had the honour to personally participate in the opening ceremony of the summit together with the Georgian delegation.
The unified national strategy and action plan of education and science takes into account the goals of sustainable development as much as possible and helps to strengthen the results achieved within the framework of the current education reform.
Each initiative and project that we implement is in full compliance with the priorities provided by the mentioned strategy and is aimed at providing a quality, equal, inclusive, and diverse education and science system focused on the needs of the society and the state", said Mikheil Chkhenkeli.
