Within the framework of his visit to Brussels, the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, held a meeting with the Assistant Secretary General of NATO for Emerging Security Challenges, David van Weel.
During the meeting held at the NATO Headquarters, the parties emphasized the yearslong fruitful cooperation between Georgia and NATO - Giorgi Amilakhvari thanked the NATO Assistant Secretary General for his invaluable support to Georgia and underlined the importance of duly reflecting country’s progress in Vilnius Summit Communique.
The Two Sides also discussed the NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Program which promotes greater involvement of the Georgian scientific community in research activities related to common security challenges in line with NATO priorities. According to the Minister, this program provides an excellent opportunity for Georgian researchers and innovators to work together alongside leading scientists from NATO member states on important scientific research projects. Giorgi Amilakhvari stated that many Georgian researchers are already interested in the SPS Program.
During the meeting, the Sides agreed to create a dedicated scientific dialogue format between NATO and Georgia within the scopes of NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Program, for exchange and share of ideas and experience. Within the frames of NATO-Georgia Scientific Dialogue format, the working meetings will be held in both Georgia and Brussels.
The two sides once again confirmed the importance of long-term scientific cooperation and expressed readiness to enhance the partnership in the future.
The meeting was attended by Viktor Dolidze, the Head of the Mission of Georgia to NATO.
