The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, inaugurated the newly constructed 138th public school in Tbilisi and personally extended congratulations to the students and the entire school community on the commencement of the educational process in the new building.
Giorgi Amilakhvari highlighted the ongoing infrastructure projects throughout the country, emphasizing the Georgian government's commitment to providing a safe and adaptive environment for all children in general educational institutions, aligned with modern standards. The minister stated that with the implementation of large-scale projects, all public schools in Georgia are expected to have robust infrastructure within the next 2-3 years.
The 2023-2024 academic year will be held in the newly built facility, adhering to modern standards, for the students of the 138th public school in Tbilisi.
The construction works and equipment for the general educational institution amounted to 11 million GEL. The three-story building, constructed as part of the project, features science and computer laboratories, a library, a doctor's office, a canteen, an auditorium, and sports halls. The building is equipped with heating, fire protection, water supply, and sewage systems, and is fully adapted for students with special needs.
The 138th public school in Tbilisi, built in 1967, had not undergone rehabilitation due to its age. In the 2019-2020 academic year, the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia decided to construct a new school complex on the site of the old building.
As of current data, approximately 700 students are enrolled in the school, with 44 teachers employed, including 12 leaders and 32 senior teachers.
It's noteworthy that the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia prioritizes the provision of educational infrastructure nationwide to create an equally accessible learning environment in schools. In this regard, under the decision of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, a 1 billion GEL project is underway, involving the large-scale construction and rehabilitation of schools to ensure equal access to educational resources and their improvement. The implementation of this project is expected to benefit over 230,000 students, leading to the comprehensive infrastructural improvement of all public general educational institutions by the end of 2027.
Throughout the rehabilitation and construction of new schools, modern standards will be implemented, including the organization of modern laboratories and sports infrastructure, contributing to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among young people. All schools will be fully adapted for students with special educational needs.
