The Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, along with the First Deputy, Aleksandre Tsuladze, hosted a group of Harvard University students who are part of the Georgian Studies program at the Davis Center.
The gathering included Stephen Jones, who leads the Georgian Studies program at Harvard's Davis Center.
In the meeting, Minister Amilakhvari discussed the challenges within the Georgian education system, the approaches to address these challenges, and briefed the students on the ongoing reforms across all three tiers of education. The Minister also emphasized the significance of the Georgian Studies program at Harvard's Davis Center. Amilakhvari noted that the Ministry intends to play an active role in future projects, aiming to plan and execute joint programs more effectively.
The format of the meeting was interactive, with a question-and-answer session that allowed students to directly engage with the minister on topics of interest.
The students from Harvard University expressed their gratitude to Amilakhvari for the enlightening discussion. Meanwhile, the head of the Davis Centre’s Georgian Studies program acknowledged the critical support of the Georgian government in the program's development and showed enthusiasm for further collaboration with the Ministry.
It's noteworthy that the students' two-week visit to Georgia was facilitated by the Davis Center at Harvard University.
Historically, February 2022 marked the launch of the Georgian Studies program at Harvard University's Davis Center, a milestone achieved through the financial efforts of the Government of Georgia. This initiative, a non-credit course, is aimed at Harvard’s undergraduate and graduate students.
The course offers a unique exploration of Georgia's history, art, and culture, aiming to spark research interest in Georgian studies among American students. It seeks to elevate the prominence of Georgian studies by presenting a diverse array of academic and cultural experiences.
